If you have been offered admission into a university, polytechnic or college of education through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), one of the most important steps you must complete is accepting your admission. Many candidates search for how to accept admission using 55019 because they want a quick and convenient way to confirm their admission without visiting a CBT centre.
The good news is that JAMB provides an SMS service that allows eligible candidates to accept their admission using their registered phone number. However, this method only works under certain conditions, and many candidates make mistakes that prevent the SMS from working.
In this guide, Studentportals.com.ng explains how to accept admission using 55019, who can use the service, common errors to avoid, and what to do after successfully accepting your admission.
Can You Accept Admission Using 55019?
Yes. JAMB allows candidates who have already been offered admission to accept their admission through its official SMS service using 55019 or 66019. This method is designed for candidates who may not have immediate access to the internet or who prefer using SMS.
However, before using this service, your admission must already be available on JAMB CAPS. If your admission status still shows "Not Admitted" or "Admission in Progress," the SMS request will not be successful.
What You Need Before Accepting Admission Using 55019
Before sending the SMS, ensure you have the following:
- Your JAMB registration number.
- The same phone number (SIM card) you used during JAMB registration.
- Sufficient airtime on your phone.
- An admission offer already approved on JAMB CAPS.
Using a different phone number from the one linked to your JAMB profile may cause the request to fail.
How to Accept Admission Using 55019
Follow these steps carefully:
Step 1: Confirm Your Admission
Before sending any SMS, log in to your JAMB profile and confirm that your admission status shows "Admitted." You can do this through JAMB CAPS.
Step 2: Open Your SMS App
Open the messaging application on the phone that contains the SIM card you used for JAMB registration.
Step 3: Type Your SMS
Recent admission guidance states that candidates can send:
ACCEPT followed by their JAMB Registration Number
Example:
ACCEPT 12345678AB
Send the message to 55019 or 66019 using your registered phone number.
Step 4: Wait for JAMB's Response
If your admission has already been approved and your details are correct, JAMB will send a confirmation message indicating whether your request was successful.
Why Is 55019 Not Working?
If you are unable to accept your admission using 55019, one of the following may be responsible:
1. Your Admission Has Not Been Offered Yet
If JAMB CAPS still displays "Not Admitted" or "Admission in Progress," there is no admission available to accept yet. Wait until your status changes before trying again.
2. You Used the Wrong Phone Number
The SMS must be sent from the exact phone number linked to your JAMB profile. Using another SIM card may prevent the request from being processed.
3. Insufficient Airtime
Ensure you have enough airtime before sending the SMS, as the service is not free. Some recent guides indicate a standard SMS service charge applies.
4. Temporary Network Issues
Network delays can affect SMS delivery. If you do not receive a response immediately, wait a few minutes and try again.
55019 or 66019: Which One Should You Use?
JAMB currently recognises both 55019 and 66019 for its official SMS services. If one short code is unavailable on your network, you may use the other where applicable.
Do You Still Need JAMB CAPS?
Yes.
Even if you use the SMS method, JAMB CAPS remains the official platform for monitoring your admission status. It is advisable to log in to CAPS to confirm that your admission has been successfully accepted and to complete any additional admission requirements.
What Should You Do After Accepting Your Admission?
After successfully accepting your admission, you should:
- Print your JAMB Admission Letter.
- Print your original JAMB Result Slip.
- Visit your institution's admission portal.
- Pay the institution's acceptance fee if required.
- Complete physical clearance and document verification.
- Pay your school fees.
- Register your courses before the deadline.
Completing these steps on time will help you avoid unnecessary delays during registration.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use another person's phone to accept my admission?
No. The SMS should be sent using the phone number you used during JAMB registration because it is linked to your JAMB profile.
Can I accept admission without JAMB CAPS?
The SMS service provides an alternative method of acceptance, but JAMB CAPS remains the official admission management platform. You should still log in to CAPS to confirm your admission status and complete any remaining admission processes.
Can I use both 55019 and 66019?
Yes. JAMB recognises both short codes for its SMS services.
What happens if I do not accept my admission?
If you fail to accept your admission within the period allowed by JAMB or your institution, you may risk losing the admission offer. Candidates are encouraged to act promptly once they have been admitted.
Conclusion
Accepting your admission is one of the final and most important stages of the admission process. If you have already been offered admission through JAMB CAPS, you can use the official SMS service on 55019 or 66019 with the phone number linked to your JAMB profile, where applicable. Always confirm your admission status first, follow the official instructions carefully, and complete all other registration requirements required by your institution.
At Studentportals.com.ng, we will continue to update this guide whenever JAMB introduces changes to its admission acceptance process so that you always have access to accurate and reliable information.
