President Tinubu Appoints Professor Segun Aina as New JAMB Registrar, Set to Replace Ishaq Oloyede in July 2026

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, replacing Professor Ishaq Oloyede whose tenure will officially end on July 31, 2026.

The appointment was announced on Thursday in a statement released by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the Presidency, Professor Aina is a respected academic and technology expert currently serving as a professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University. The statement described him as a specialist in digital infrastructure, national examination systems and institutional reforms.

The Presidency said Aina, who will turn 40 in July, is regarded as one of the youngest professors in the field of Computer Engineering in Nigeria and will become the youngest registrar in the history of JAMB.

The statement noted that the newly appointed registrar earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent. He also obtained a Master of Science degree in Internet Computing and Network Security as well as a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. In addition, he completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

According to the statement, Professor Aina has more than 15 years of professional experience advising both federal and state governments on digital transition, institutional reforms and systems design.

The Presidency also revealed that he had previously worked with major examination bodies in Nigeria, including the National Examinations Council and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board, where he served as a consultant on ICT systems and examination integrity.

The statement further disclosed that Aina belongs to several professional organisations, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

President Tinubu expressed confidence in the ability of the incoming registrar to continue and improve on the reforms and achievements recorded during the tenure of Professor Oloyede.

The statement added that the President expects Professor Aina to use his experience, knowledge and technical expertise to further strengthen the operations of JAMB and move the examination body to greater heights.

Professor Oloyede has been widely recognised for introducing reforms in the conduct of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and improving transparency in the operations of JAMB during his time as registrar.
