Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, has announced that 32 of its graduating students finished with First Class honours out of a total of 5,799 students who completed their academic programmes for the 2025/2026 session.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga Ige, made the disclosure on Monday while briefing journalists on the activities lined up for the institution’s 14th Convocation Ceremony.
Professor Ige revealed that in line with the university’s long-standing policy of retaining its best-performing students, all 32 First Class graduates would be offered automatic employment as Graduate Assistants—provided they are willing to take up the offer after completing their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.
“The university has a policy that gives automatic employment to its best graduates. So, the 32 First Class graduates can get the opportunity if they are willing after their NYSC programme,” he said.
Breakdown of Graduating Students
The Vice Chancellor provided a detailed breakdown of the 5,799 graduating students:

32 – First Class

1,444 – Second Class Upper
-
3,177 – Second Class Lower
-
582 – Third Class
-
16 – Pass
This brings the total number of undergraduate graduates to 5,251.
In addition, 526 postgraduate students will also receive their degrees, comprising:

32 – Ph.D
-
492 – Master’s degrees
-
2 – Postgraduate Diplomas
-
22 – Diploma certificates
Convocation Activities
According to Professor Ige, the 14th convocation lecture will be delivered on Wednesday by the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Idowu Olayinka.
He added that this year’s convocation would be his last as Vice Chancellor, expressing pride in the progress made under his administration. He highlighted that AAUA had consistently secured 100% accreditation for all its academic programmes from the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Commitment to Excellence Despite Challenges
Professor Ige acknowledged the financial constraints facing Nigeria’s education sector but stressed that the university had still achieved significant milestones in infrastructure, staff development, and academic quality.
“Our administration has placed immense importance on continuous training and professional development of staff,” he said. “We have continued to safeguard the integrity of the university’s academic programmes in line with our vision to be a leading institution that advances manpower development and research.”
He also expressed appreciation to the various staff unions for their cooperation and support, which he said had contributed to maintaining a peaceful and productive academic environment.
